The Symphonic Band is designed for students with one or more years of playing
experience who have achieved the highest level proficiency on his or her
instrument. The privilege of being a member of the Symphonic Band carries the
highest level responsibility and expectations. The Symphonic Band can be compared
with top band programs across the state of Texas. Because it is extremely
difficult to receive individual instruction in a full band setting, students will be
required to attend 1 hour long section rehearsal each week before school. Members of the Symphonic Band will also be required to audition for the All-region band and orchestra in October as well as perform in the K.I.S.D. Solo & Ensemble contest in the spring.
The Symphonic Band also participates in the U.I.L Concert and sightreading contest
in April, as well as the Festival at the Falls contest in late April. Members of the band will be asked to take recruiting trips to elementary schools in December. In addition to winter and spring concerts, the band will also perform a fall concert in October. All academically eligible Symphonic Band students are required to perform in all of these activities, unless excused by a director with plenty of advance notice. Participation in the Symphonic Band requires responsbility, great work ethic, excellent time management skills, a great attitude and outstanding self-discipline.
Concert Band is designed for students with one or more years of playing experience who have achieved above average technical proficiency on his or her instrument. The privilege of being a member of Concert Band A carries increased responsibility and expectations. Development of technique and musicality will occur at a fast pace and at a high level for students in this ensemble. Because it is extremely difficult to receive individual instruction in a full band setting, students will be required to attend one hour-long section rehearsal each week. Concert Band A students will be encouraged to participate in the private lesson program. Members of Concert Band A will also be encouraged to audition for the All-region band and orchestra in October and required to perform at the K.I.S.D. Solo & Ensemble contest in the spring. Concert Band A also participates in the U.I.L Concert and sight-reading contest in April, as well as the Bridgeland contest in late April. In addition to winter and spring concerts, the band will also perform a fall concert in October. All academically eligible Concert Band A students are required to perform in all of these activities, unless excused by a director with plenty of advance notice.
The Beginning Band classes are designed for students with little or no previous
playing experience. The most basic concepts of fundamentals, technique, and
musicality are emphasized. Each individual instrument will be taught in its
own separate class period during the school day to insure the most complete and
individual instruction possible. There will be a few after-school rehearsals and competitions throughout the year, although we do try to keep it to a minimum.
